Public Enemy #1- Pirates of the Aden

The Somali Pirates currently ravaging the Gulf of Aden are due to release a new “World Music" Rap album titled “Jolly Roger” Today!! October 31.

Inspired by American gangster rap of the early 90’s such as Ice-T, Eazy-E, NWA and Public Enemy

these pirates mix the desperation of political anarchy with the hope of organized crime. The music produced from the pirates' situation is edgy, yet complex, as these Somali pirates are naturally gifted polyphonic percussionists. –Rolling Stone



“MTV’s “Booty R&B” music videos are inspirational to Somali Pirates,” reports the group's leader 42-year-old Omad Hassan.


“My boys wed the most beautiful girls; they are building big houses; they have new cars; new guns. They are not criminals; they are only in it for the money. You see, the way we do piracy is socially acceptable, in fact, it has become fashionable. Once a pirate makes his fortune, he tends to take on a second and third wife renowned for her beauty- often a very young woman from a poor nomadic clan. This is just one example of how our piracy activities create upward mobility.”

“We do not see ourselves as pirates; more like...Coastguard,” confides one pirate as he takes off into the Gulf of Aden with his crew of homeys donning Kalashnikovs in a rowboat equipped with a 40 horsepower outboard engine.

“We are the New Jack Hustlers of 2008” chides another pirate. “The Pirate’s Booty” is soon to be an international music success. For one- we play our own drums...and we have international Navies paralyzed. This is bad-ass motherfucking bad! We learned from gangster rap and have innovated strategies.”



Just A Casual Observation has been given exclusive rights from the Pirate’s Music Agent at CAA to print the lyrics to “The Pirate’s Booty” fresh off the “Jolly Roger” Album debuting in stores Oct. 31, 2008.
